Web site development FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Aren't there lots of hidden costs with web sites?

There's a couple of extra charges you need to be aware of.

Managetech's fee covers the cost of design and production of the site.

There will be a charge for hosting the site (ie. putting it on a web server (a highly reliable computer) that is connected to the Internet) but for a simple site this is likely to be about £60 per anum + VAT. For more complicated sites the cost can be higher (circa £100) but such costs will be made clear before you commit to using us. There may also be a charge for a domain name (ie. yourbusinessname.com, or yourbusinessname.co.uk) but this won't be more than £10 per anum.

Some web companies charge by the hour for their services and there have been cases where costs for sites have escalated wildly after a customer has committed to one web developer. This won't happen with Managetech because we're upfront about costs, we're honest, and we depend on customer satisfaction.

What's the process?

When you contact us we'll arrange a meeting where we will talk about why you need a site, what you want it to achieve and any ideas you have about how you want it to look.

Then we'll come up with three designs for the overall "look" of the site and agree the number and purpose of the pages. We'll also discuss a strategy for web site optimisation and what domain name you want. We'll then create the site efficiently, keeping you up to date with progress and once you've approved the site, it will be published to the web. We will also show you how to track hits on your site and how to setup your email features if required.

When do I pay?

After the first meeting, if you decide to employ Managetech then we'll put our agreement into writing (detailing deliverables) and will need a deposit (if you employ us we'll be committed to you, so the deposit ensures the reverse). The remainder will be due once the site is finished and approved by you.

Why do we need search engine strategy?

There's a lot of people out there on the web trying to capture people's attention (apparently one billion domain names have been registered) and we need to know how your site is going to compete with them quite early in the design process so that we can establish keywords and position them strategically. We'll also help you identify other web sites which might link to yours and we'll submit your site to search engines for indexing.

There is no guarantee that we can get you a high ranking: No developer can guarantee that as no developer controls the search engines or all of the competition. The difference is that managetech doesn't charge for these services and integrates them into the design process which gives the techniques maximum impact whereas some web developers charge a fortune for similar services after they've developed the site. One warning: SEO (search engine optimisation) takes time to have an impact (google page rank is key to google search results and they don't update that very often). Develop your site at least three months before you want it to produce results.

Can I change the site once it's up and running?

Managetech will tweak the site for free if you decide it needs it after a few weeks of being up and running.

For larger changes you're always going to need a web designer/programmer and Managetech would be happy to help for a fee.

But Managetech can provide database driven web sites which allows a moderately confident computer user to change the text and photographs of sites and basic training on these functions would be included in the price
